DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1645Z August 6, 2011
Southern Plains: Three, separate areas of light smoke can be seen across portions of north/central Texas and into southern and central Oklahoma. This is all likely remnant smoke from the numerous fires that were observed yesterday across central Oklahoma and into Texas and Louisiana. Southern Sierra Nevada's: An area of possible light smoke mixed with some unknown aerosols can be seen moving northward through western California into southwest Nevada in this morning's satellite imagery. A wildfire in central California as well as a few other fires in southern California and the Baja would most likely contribute to this area of possible smoke. Ontario/Quebec: Large fires continue to burn through western and central Ontario but with considerable cloudiness along a stationary boundary that is draped across the region, the larger area of remnant smoke that has been seen over the past several days can not be seen in this morning's imagery. Northwest Territories/Western Nunavut: A few areas of smoke could be seen across the northern portion of the Northwest Territories just to the north of Great Bear Lake and just to the south of Great Bear Lake near and along the Nunavut border. More moderately dense smoke can be seen in the eastern most smoke plume. These areas of remnant smoke are most likely from the fires that were observed yesterday through the northern Northwest Territories and just around the Great Slave Lake.
