DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1530Z August 17, 2011
Mid-Atlantic: The Lateral West fire is generating moderately dense to dense smoke which is moving to the west effecting southeastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina. Florida: A fire along the panhandle of Florida is emitting moderately dense smoke which is meandering to the south over the Gulf of Mexico. This smoke is mixed with lighter smoke which may be remnant from the previous days fires. Nevada: The Ray May fire along the Nevada/California border continues to produce large amounts of moderately dense to dense smoke which is moving the the northeast. The smoke extends Nevada, into southern Idaho and then northwestern Wyoming. -Salemi THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
