THROUGH 0100Z November 2, 2011
Pacific NW Coast/Central and N. California/S. British Columbia: Light to moderate smoke is being emitted from wildfires in southern B.C., Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and California this evening. Remnant smoke from the fires in southern Oregon and California is moving in the westward direction while smoke from the fires in southern B.C, Washington, and Idaho is moving east southeast as a result of the surface high pressure system over Washington. Mississippi River Valley: Numerous short lived, smoke producing agricultural burns in Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, and Missouri are collectively responsible for patches of light density remnant smoke scattered throughout the named states. Smoke is generally drifting in the North/Northwest direction. While most of these plumes disperse rather quickly, some can be seen for hundreds of kilometers away from their sources. Ramirez THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG: http://www.osdpd.noaa.gov/ml/land/hms.html GIS: http://www.firedetect.noaa.gov/viewer.htm KML: http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/FIRE/kml.html ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
