THROUGH 0045Z January 21, 2012
Texas: Blowing dust was observed from approximately 1900Z to sunset across north central Texas. The dust originated in Terry and Lynn counties, not far from the border with New Mexico, and extended 350 km (190 nmi) to the east at 2300Z. Florida: A substantial number of ag fires resulted in significant smoke plumes across the state, but only a single fire in each of DeSoto and Collier counties resulted in detached clouds of smoke that moved west and out over the Gulf of Mexico. In general, smoke from fires in central Florida moved west to west northwest while smoke from fires in the north of the state moved towards the north.
