DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 2345Z February 2, 2012
Southwest: Strong winds associated with a winter storm moving into the central Rockies was generating several areas of blowing dust late this afternoon and evening. One area was being generated from White Sands New Mexico and the dust was blowing to the northeast about 100km from the source. Another area from multiple sources was seen blowing across northern Chihuahua state in Mexico just south of the New Mexico border. This area was moving to the east. More dust was seen moving across south central Arizona, mainly south and east of Phoenix. A narrow plume of blowing dust was seen in southeast California between Blythe and Joshua Tree National Park and moving south toward the Mexico border. Finally, a plume of dust was generated from Esmeralda county in southwest Nevada and moving south into Inyo county California. Ruminski/Vogt THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
