DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1745Z March 1, 2012
Central Plains/Southwestern U.S.: A large area of remnant dust continues to stretch across much of the central and southwest United States. Dust is visible covering much of Missouri and western Illinois. A well-defined, 30 kilometer line of dust/aerosol extends from northwestern Arkansas to areas south of Oklahoma City, south of Lubbock, over El Paso and south of the Arizona/Mexico border continuing to the Gulf of California. This dust is believed to be from long range trans Pacific dust. Mid Atlantic: Off of the coasts of Virginia and North Carolina, an aerosol was visible this morning. This could be a combination of trans Pacific dust in addition to dust originating the past week in the western United States.
