DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1815Z March 7, 2012
Northeast US: A broad area of smoke comprised of multiple remnant smoke plumes is observed offshore of the mid-Atlantic and northeast states moving east. The detached smoke likely originated from several recent wildfires in Oklahoma, Missouri, and Arkansas, but smoke from numerous agricultural burns in the lower Mississippi Valley and in the southeast US are likely contributing as well. It is also possible that blowing dust is mixed in too. An aerosol of unknown composition is seen moving south into the Gulf of California, but is not believed to be smoke. Blowing Dust: Dust originating from northern Chihuahua is moving northeast into south central New Mexico affecting Luna, Dona Ana, Sierra, Otera, Socorro, and Lincoln counties.
