THROUGH 0000Z March 29, 2012
Currently: Mid Atlantic Coast: An area of light residual smoke can be seen moving east off of the New Jersey, Delaware, Virgina and Maryland coast. The area off the coast is most likely a combination of smoke from agricultural fires from previous days burning across the Central Plains and Mississippi Valley. Gulf of Mexico: An area of unknown aerosols (most likely smoke) can be seen moving west NW across parts of northern and eastern Gulf of Mexico. North/Central Plains/Southeast: Numerous fires are burning across the region with some producing light to moderately dense smoke. A few are emitting heavier smoke. Overall, the smoke seen is much less than yesterday due to cloud cover across both regions. Earlier Today: Central Plains/Middle Mississippi River Valley: An area of remnant thin-dense smoke is seen draped across portions of eastern Kansas/Missouri/northern Arkansas/southern Illinois/southern Indiana and western half of Kentucky. Smoke is believed to be from numerous fires seen burning across Kansas in addition to fire that were burning across much of the lower-Mississippi River Valley and southeast U.S. J Kibler THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE...TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS.
