DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

Gulf of Mexico: A large area of thin remnant smoke continued to be evident over the Gulf of Mexico this evening from coastal areas of south Texas and extending east towards the southern portions of Florida. It is believed that this smoke is from recent fires over Mexico and Central America. Southwest US to Central Rockies: A large area of blowing dust was evident on satellite imagery this evening from the southwest United States extending northeast into the Northern Plains. The most concentrated area was from southern portions of Colorado extending northeast into extreme southwest Nebraska. Hanna THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
