DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1500Z April 13, 2012
Mid-Atlantic/Southeast US: Several wildfires in the George Washington National Forest in western Virginia in Alleghany and Rockbridge counties are generating light to moderately dense smoke this overnight and this morning that is drifting to the south. Florida/Gulf of Mexico: The County Line fire in Columbia County, FL continues to generate moderately dense smoke this morning. The smoke is moving to the southwest over Apalachee Bay and adjoining coastal areas in the Florida Panhandle. An area of light to moderately dense remnant smoke from the County Line fire has drifted further southwest into the Gulf and now extends from coastal Louisiana southeastward into the central Gulf and toward the western tip of Cuba. An additional area of remnant smoke was seen in the Atlantic stretching east of the Bahamas. Ruminski THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
