DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0245Z May 1, 2012
Central US/Western Gulf of Mexico/Northern Mexico: Late afternoon and early evening GOES-East visible imagery showed a large area of thin density aerosol extending from the Bay of Campeche northward across the western Gulf of Mexico and over northern and eastern Mexico. The aerosol also extended northward from there across much of the Plains from Texas to at least as far north as South Dakota and Minnesota. It is believed that much of this aerosol is composed of smoke which has been transported northward from the ongoing seasonal fires burning in Mexico and Central America.
