South Texas/northeast Mexico/western Gulf of Mexico: The area of mainly light smoke seen mixed with clouds earlier this morning over much of south Texas and adjoining areas of northern Mexico and the Gulf of Mexico was still visible during the late afternoon and evening. This is likely residual smoke from the numerous seasonal fires burning in the Yucatan and Central America as well as fires over the mountains of northwest Mexico. South Florida: An area of light smoke was seen over the Florida Keys, far southern Florida, and surrounding areas of the southeast Gulf of Mexico. This is likely remnant smoke from fires in southern Florida and Cuba. JS Earlier This Morning... Dust: Central Plains: An area of presumed thin dust (as suggested by the Naval Research Lab aerosol forecast) is seen this morning from northeast Colorado across South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa and into Wisconsin. This aerosol likely originated from Asia and is rotating around the southern portion of a large cyclonic circulation centered over northern Minnesota.
