DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1700Z May 12, 2012
Ontario/Hudson Bay/North Central US: An elongated band of aerosol, likely smoke, stretches from the southwest over Minnesota and the Dakotas to the northeast over Ontario and the Hudson Bay. Aerosol models suggest that dust from Asia is possibly present too. In the early morning hours LT the aerosol was mainly light density with a strip of moderate to heavy density embedded in the center. By 1800Z the aerosol had significantly faded/dispersed. Mexico: Several fires located primarily along the Durango-Nayarit border in west central Mexico were producing light to moderate density smoke plumes at first light. Remnant smoke is moving to the west.
