DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0300Z June 7, 2012
South Central US: Area of thin to moderately dense smoke continues to drift toward the south and east across much of eastern New Mexico and Texas this evening. Smoke originated from large wildfires burning in New Mexico, Wyoming and northern Mexico. Northern Canada: Area of thin density smoke associated with several wildfires burning in northwestern Saskatchewan is seen across portions of northern Saskatchewan, northeastern Manitoba and southeastern Northwest Territories. This area of smoke is rotating clockwise across this region as it has become trapped in an upper-level ridge of high pressure. Southwestern US: Area of blowing dust could be seen in last few visible images from GOES-East tracking east-northeast across northern Mexican state of Sonora. Warren THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
