DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0100Z June 15, 2012
Currently: Arizona/New Mexico: A fire in Gila county is producing moderately dense to dense smoke northeast into Coconino and Navajo counties. Smoke density has increased since the late afternoon The Whitewater-Baldy wildfire is emitting mostly light to moderately dense smoke pushing east across central New Mexico. Northwest Mexico/southwest US: Areas of dust are kicking up across parts of northwest Mexico. The dust is moving NNE into the southern sections of Arizona, New Mexico and extreme southeast California. Earlier Today: Central/Southern Plains/Colorado/New Mexico: The large wildfires in the west, specifically the High Park fire in northern Colorado and the Little Bear and Whitewater-Baldy fires in southern New Mexico, continue to burn and have led to a large amount of remnant smoke moving eastward from the Colorado and New Mexico into Nebraska to Texas. The full extent of this smoke is difficult to discern due to the presence of clouds in that region. North/Central Canada: Light, remnant smoke can be seen near the border of Saskatchewan and Northwest Territories into northern Manitoba near the border of Nunavut. This is from the fires that were seen burning yesterday through northern Saskatchewan and northern Manitoba. Newfoundland and Labrador: A long, thin region of what appears to be remnant smoke can be seen stretching from eastern Labrador southward into Newfoundland. This is most likely remnant smoke from recent fires across Quebec and Labrador as well as the large complex of fires that started up last evening through eastern Labrador. -J Kibler THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS.
