DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0200Z June 18, 2012
Blowing Dust/Sand: Areas of blowing dust/sand can be seen moving east across parts of southern Oregon, northern California, western Nevada, southern Idaho and western/central Idaho. An unknown aerosol (possibly blowing dust) can be seen moving into northern California, Oregon and moving into southwestern Idaho and northern/central Nevada. Colorado/Nebraska/Kansas/Oklahoma/Texas: The High Park wildfire is producing a large area of moderately dense to dense smoke moving east across northern Colorado, southwest Nebraska. Lighter smoke is blowing east into northwest Kansas with northern edges running across the border into Wyoming. A wildfire burning in southeast Park County, Colorado is producing an area of moderately dense to dense smoke moving southeast and extending 260 km to 275 km. The smoke is beginning to reach southwest Kansas, and the panhandles of Texas and Oklahoma. Nevada: A wildfire in White Pine County is emitting a large area of heavy smoke extending well east into northern/central/eastern Utah. The fire has continue to grow throughout the day. Earlier Today: Carolinas: A wildfire (uncontrolled prescribed burn) in the Croatan National Forest in eastern North Carolina produced smoke overnight and throughout the morning hours. Smoke from this fire has moved south and extends offshore as far south as Myrtle Beach, SC. J Kibler THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
