DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0330Z June 21, 2012
Mid-Atlantic/New England: An area of light remnant smoke, quite possibly mixed with other aerosols/pollution/haze, circulated around an area of high pressure off of the North Carolina coast this evening. The northern extent of the circulation extended as far north as southern Quebec and Maine. The western edge in Indiana and Michigan was well-defined. Backtrack trajectories indicate any smoke present may be from the large fires burning in the Rocky Mountains. Desert Southwest: Localized areas of heavy smoke was viewed this evening near the following fires: 1. Poco fire in Arizona 2. Little Sand fire in Colorado 3. Little Bear fire in New Mexico Myrga THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
