THROUGH 0200Z June 23, 2012

Smoke:
US East Coast:
Light remnant smoke extends along the east coast from Maine down through
the Carolinas, Tennessee, northern Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi.
From Mississippi, the smoke becomes moderately dense while moving through
Arkansas and eastern Texas.

Wyoming:
The Springer Fire in east-central Wyoming continues to emit moderately
dense to dense smoke which is moving to the east.

Colorado:
The High Park, Little Sand and another unnamed fire complex continue
to emit large amount of moderately dense to dense smoke. All of this
smoke is moving to the northeast.

Utah:
The Dump and Glenanna fires are creating light to moderately dense smoke
which is moving to the northeast.

Canada:
Multiple fires in Labrador are emitting light to moderately dense smoke
which is moving to the northwest.

Several fires surrounding the Great Slave Lake are producing moderately
dense to dense smoke which is moving to the south.

Blowing Dust/Sand:
Nevada:
In north-central Churchill County, south of Humboldt State Wildlife
Management Area, an area of blowing dust/sand originates at 22/2215Z
moving east and continues through sunset.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT
AREAS SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME
DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE
FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST
ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF
THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO
THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
