DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1700Z June 27, 2012
Central North America: Light to moderately dense smoke remains situated across central North America. The smoke extends from southern Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario, south through the Central Plains/Mississippi Valley, into Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi where it enters the Gulf of Mexico. The smoke also extends east through the Mississippi Valley into Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Virginia, the Carolinas and Georgia. These areas likely consist of remnant smoke from the numerous large wildfire in the western US. Alaska/Canada: A small area of light remnant smoke from fires in northwestern Northwest Territories can be seen extending from the northern Yukon/Northwest Territories border east into Nunavut. Salemi THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
