DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1800Z June 30, 2012
Much of the US: Massive amounts of smoke continue to be emitted from the large wildfires burning in the Western states, primarily in Montana, Wyoming and Utah. Remnant light density smoke stretches across the central plains, lower Great Lakes region, the lower Mississippi River Valley, the mid-Atlantic states, the southeast US, and out over the western Atlantic Ocean. Locally moderate to thick density smoke is observed near the sources of the fires. Ramirez THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
