DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0200Z July 10, 2012
Canada/Northern US: Several smoke producing fires are observed in northern Alberta and southern Northwest Territories this evening. Though that particular area is where fires are most concentrated, other areas that contain active fires include Yukon, western Northwest Territories, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. Resultantly, light density remnant smoke is seen over most of the western half of Canada and moderate to thick density smoke is seen in and around the Great Slave Lake and Lake Athabasca regions. Pacific Northwest: Large wildfires burning in northern California, Oregon, and Idaho are collectively producing a light to moderately dense remnant smoke mass that covers much of the region. Remnant smoke is dense to very dense near the sources of the respective fires. Ramirez THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS.
