Northern US: Remnant smoke stretched across the entire northern US from northern California northeast to Montana/Dakotas and then eastward to the western Great Lakes. Additional areas of thin smoke were then broken off over the Ohio Valley and over Long Island/New Jersey coast. This smoke is believed to be mostly from numerous wildfires that have been burning in the western US states of California, Idaho, Oregon, and Montana although some smoke could also be from fires in Canada. Oklahoma: A small patch of thin remnant smoke was seen over central Oklahoma, most likely from a grouping of fires in the western part of the state yesterday. Northwestern to South Central Canada: An expansive area of remnant smoke stretches across Canada this morning, from the Beaufort Sea north of the Yukon Territory southeast across the Northwest Territories and Nunavut, Manitoba, and Ontario to James Bay. The smoke also extends southwest to northeastern British Columbia. Moderately to dense smoke was present over northeast British Columbia and also within a band from the northern Northwest Territories northward towards Banks Island. Nearly all of this smoke is from several clusters of wildfires burning in southwestern and central parts of the Northwest Territories and northwest Alberta. Aleutians: An aerosol seen moving across the western Aleutians through a large hole in the clouds is believed to be smoke from Asian fires.
