DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0330Z August 25, 2012
Currently: Northwest US into Northern Plains and southern Canada: Wildfires burning in northern California, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming are contributing to a large area of remnant smoke that stretch across much of the northwest and central US. This evening, thick density smoke was visible close to source fires, while moderate density smoke was seen moving northeastward across the US/Canadian border into Saskatchewan. Patches of light density smoke were also visible in Texas. -LP Earlier Today: Canada: A small area of light density smoke is detected through dense cloud cover over northern Hudson Bay. The area of smoke may be larger but detection is limited due to dense cloud cover. -Salemi THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
