California/Oregon: Smoke from wildfires burning in northern California and southwest Oregon covers much of the southeast half of Oregon and the northern third of California. Moderate to thick density smoke is mainly confined to the area from Trinity county California north to Jackson, Klamath and Lake counties in Oregon. Idaho to western Ontario: The numerous wildfires in central Idaho continue to generate a large amount of smoke that is moving to the east across southern Montana and northern Wyoming and into the Dakotas and then curves northeast across northern Minnesota into western Ontario. Much of this smoke was elevated and light density. But there was a patch of moderate density smoke from northern Minnesota into western Ontario. More extensive moderate and thick density smoke was closer to the source fires in Idaho. Southern Canada: An area of light remnant smoke was seen moving to the east across southern Alberta into southern Saskatchewan. The source is not known. Southeast Coast: An area of thin remnant smoke was seen along and off the southeast US coast. The smoke extended from near Wilmington North Carolina to a point about 150 to 200km off the coast and then extended southwestward off the South Carolina Coast, across northern Florida and into the southeast Gulf of Mexico. This is believed to be remnant smoke from the western wildfires and is likely mixed with haze pollution. Ruminski THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG: http://www.osdpd.noaa.gov/ml/land/hms.html GIS: http://www.firedetect.noaa.gov/viewer.htm KML: http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/FIRE/kml.html ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
