DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1500Z September 4, 2012
North Central US, Ontario and Quebec: The numerous wildfires in central Idaho continue to generate a large amount of smoke that is moving to the east across the northern Plains, Upper Midwest, Great Lakes, southern Ontario and western Quebec. Dense smoke was over the Dakotas and portions of Montana and Wyoming while a ribbon of moderate smoke extended from the Great Lakes northeast across southern Ontario and into western Quebec. The remainder of the region was shrouded in light residual smoke. THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
