DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1745Z September 23, 2012
Western and Central US/Southwestern Canada: Large and numerous wildfires continue to burn through portions of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming today. Remnant smoke from these fires can be seen from southwestern Canada and through the Pacific Northwest into the central and southern Plains. The more dense portion of this smoke could be seen throughout most of the Pacific Northwest and into Montana and Wyoming. Western Canada: Light to moderately dense smoke can be seen from the northern portion of the Northwest Territories southward into portions of western and central Canada. This is likely remnant smoke from the fires that continue to burn through northern British Columbia and northern Alberta and southern Yukon and Northwest Territories. -Belge THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
