DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 2345Z January 27, 2013
Blowing Dust: An area of light blowing dust was observed this evening from around 21Z until sunset from western Texas, just north of the Midland/Odessa area and extended to the northeast into southwest Oklahoma near Altus. Smoke: The remnant smoke noted in the morning discussion over the eastern Gulf of Mexico is no longer detected in satellite imagery this evening. Ruminski Previous Discussion: Florida Panhandle/Eastern Gulf of Mexico: An area of thin remnant smoke from yesterday's ag fires in the Southeast could be seen drifting westward over the northeastern Gulf of Mexico and along the Florida Panhandle. Another smaller area of aerosol that is thought to be remnant smoke was present to the west of the numerous ag fires burning in Florida south of Lake Okeechobee. Sheffler THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
