THROUGH 1800Z February 5, 2013
Southeast US: Thin smoke was present along and off the coasts of the Carolinas and also north/northeast of the Bahamas extending beneath an area of cloudiness. This smoke is likely from numerous fires that have been burning in the Southeast over the past day or two. Straits of Florida: An area of aerosol that is thought to be smoke is seen between Cuba and Florida. It is not known whether the thin remnant smoke originated from fires in Florida or Cuba, but it is probable that the smoke came from one of these two areas. Western Gulf of Mexico: An unknown aerosol could be seen over the western Gulf. It appears to be drifting northward from Mexico/Central America and gathering along the western end of a frontal boundary.
