Gulf Coast and Southern Mississippi Valley: Numerous fires could be seen burning today throughout the southeastern US and Gulf Coast States and in through the southern Mississippi Valley. Some of these fires produced large smoke plumes that moved towards the south with High pressure in place over the region. South Carolina Coast: An area of what appears to be blowing dust/sand can be seen moving towards the east and off the coast of South Carolina this afternoon and into the evening hours. Gusty west/northwesterly winds over this region have likely led to this area of blowing dust or sand. -Belge THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS.
