DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

The area of light density remnant smoke over the Atlantic mentioned in the smoke text product earlier today (see below) drifted eastward throughout the day. Fires across the southeast continued to produce smoke this evening. LP EARLIER TODAY: US East Coast/Atlantic: An area of residual light smoke from fires burning across the Southeast and Mississippi Valley yesterday has moved off the coast and into the Atlantic. The smoke stretches from just off southeast Virginia south to central Florida. Coastline. The smoke may extend farther north/east, but due to cloud cover it cannot be seen in early morning GOES-13 imagery. J Kibler THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
