DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

Gulf of Mexico: An area of light remnant smoke form yesterdays fires in the Southeast was seen over the eastern Gulf of Mexico off the west coast of Florida and was drifting to the west southwest. Southeast US: A very large number of fires was observed this afternoon and evening over the southeast from the Carolinas and Georgia into Florida, Alabama and Mississippi. Many of these fires generated smoke plumes that were detected mainly moving to the south and southeast. Bahamas: Numerous fires were burning on the Bahamas on Grand Abaco and Andros Islands with smoke drifting to the south. Ruminski THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
