Eastern Gulf of Mexico: The large area of light smoke noted in the morning narrative over the eastern Gulf and off the Atlantic coast of Florida has become more diffuse. The remnant smoke is now detected in a smaller area of the north central Gulf just off the coast of the western panhandle of Florida. Southeast US: There were a large number of fires in the Southeast once again this afternoon and evening which were generating a substantial amount of smoke. Most of the fires were observed over South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Alabama with the smoke mostly moving in a clockwise direction over the region. There were two fires of note that generated more smoke than the other fires. One was located north of Tampa in Hernando county and the other was in Collier county in southern Florida in the Big Cypress National Preserve.
