DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0200Z April 1 2013
Currently: Gulf of Mexico: A few large areas of light density remnant smoke were visible over the Gulf of Mexico this evening. One area was seen moving northward over the Texas Gulf Coast, and likely originated from fires burning in Mexico. Another area was visible northwest of Cuba, and likely originated from fires burning in Cuba. LP Earlier Today: Western/Southern Gulf of Mexico: A large area of light, remnant smoke can be seen moving northward through the western and southern portions of the Gulf of Mexico. This is leftover from numerous fires that have been burning and continue to burn through the Yucatan Peninsula and into central America. Central Plains: An elongated area of what appears to be blowing dust possibly mixed with some unknown aerosols can be seen moving southward through the central plains region this morning. With windy conditions in that region behind the frontal boundary, blowing dust is likely getting pushed through that area. -Belge THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS.
