Western Gulf of Mexico/Texas:
A large area of moderately dense smoke can be seen across the Bay of
Campeche/SW Gulf of Mexico originating from numerous large agricultural
fires across the Yucatan and Northern Central America. This smoke is
moving north and thins out to light density across the NW Gulf into
Coastal Texas. The area is bound by the Sierra Madre Oriental on the
west and approx. 93W on the eastern side.

Oegerle/Gallina

Areas described earlier this morning:
Southern Arizona:
Relatively small and elongated plume of remnant smoke is seen tracking
toward the east across southwest to south-central Arizona. Smoke is
believed to be from a fire analyzed yesterday that was located in northern
Baja California.

Texas:
Area of thin-density remnant smoke is observed across portions of
southern Texas. Smoke originated from Mexico/Central America and has
traveled north across western Gulf of Mexico into southern Texas.

Ohio River Valley:
Considerable cloudiness east of the Mississippi River, however area of
remnant thin-density smoke could be seen in GOES-WEST over eastern Ohio,
eastern Kentucky, western West Virginia and southwestern Pennsylvania.

Nevada/Idaho/Utah:
Remnant dust plume seen this morning from yesterday's blowing dust
event that originated from Nevada and is now stretched across northeast
Nevada/southeast Idaho/northwest Utah.

Alaska:
Unknown aerosol of thin-density is seen stretching south to north across
portions of eastern Alaska.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS
OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME
DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE
FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST
ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF
THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO
THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
