Smoke: US: The majority of the central US and the Mississippi River Valley Region is covered by light to heavy density smoke. The heavy, dense areas of smoke are located across eastern Colorado/northwest Kansas/southwest Nebraska, likely attributed mostly by the West Fork Complex fire in Mineral County, CO. Remnant smoke from additional wildfires in Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, and northern Mexico, as well as numerous agricultural burns in the lower Mississippi River Valley, have led to other patches of moderate to dense smoke, including a large north-to-south ribbon of heavy, dense smoke along the Mississippi River pushing eastward. The furthest eastward extent of the remnant light smoke lies across New England into the Atlantic. Canada/Alaska: An expansive area of light to dense smoke is covering a large portion of Canada this morning, extending from northwest Alaska east-southeastward across Newfoundland. The heaviest remnant smoke is located over Newfoundland moving east and is due to a very large wildfire in eastern Quebec that quickly expanded yesterday, producing copious amounts of smoke. Several areas of clouds across Canada have prevented further detection of smoke in this region. -Vogt THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
