DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0430Z June 26, 2013
Central & Eastern US: An expansive area of remnant thin to moderately dense smoke covered nearly all of the Northeast, much of the western Atlantic, the Ohio Valley, and the bulk of the central to northern Plains stretching into southern Canada. Cloud cover over some of the Northern Plains may have prevented the detection of additional remnant smoke. Smoke is mostly due in part to large wildfires located across the southwestern US with some of the smoke over the Northeast US also possibly mixed with smoke traveling southeastward from Canada/Alaska where several large wildfires have been burning. Western Gulf of Mexico/Southern Texas: A large area of remnant dust was seen moving across the western Gulf of Mexico and into southern Texas. Nevada: Blowing dust could be seen moving across the northern part of the state this evening from about 22z-03z. Canada: Numerous wildfires over parts of Quebec/Manitoba/Northwest Territories/Yukon Territory were producing moderately dense to dense smoke that covered a large portion of the country. Smoke from wildfires in Alaska was also filtering eastward across the Yukon and Northwest Territories. Alaska: Moderately dense to dense smoke from numerous wildfires continue to burn and produce smoke across the state. The remnant smoke was spreading northwestward towards Siberia and eastward towards Canada.
