Alaska/Canada/Central US: An expansive area of remnant smoke extends from Alaska south and east across much of Canada and southward across the central US (between Rocky Mountains and Mississippi River). Smoke across Canada is being drawn southward into central US by anomalous weather trough situated over this area. The smoke from Alaska to Ontario/Great Lakes region and south into US is due to numerous wildfires burning across eastern Alaska, Central Canada. Smoke over Quebec is mixture of smoke-producing wildfires in Alaska and central Canada, in addition to large heavy-smoke wildfires burning across northern Quebec province. Early evening satellite imagery even showed a few pyrocumulous clouds embedded within the thick-dense smoke plumes seen moving toward the east, Southwest US: Extensive cloud-cover prevented the detection of remnant smoke across much of the western US, however areas of thin to moderately was distinguishable in this evening's satellite imagery across portions of the southwestern US and northern Mexico. Area of smoke extended across southern California, Arizona, New Mexico, southeastern Colorado, southwestern Texas and northern Mexico. Smoke is likely primarily associated with several wildfires burning across Arizona, Colorado and northern Mexico. Oregon: An narrow and elongated plume of unknown aerosols is seen stretched across Oregon from southwest to northeast across the state. Warren THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG: http://www.osdpd.noaa.gov/ml/land/hms.html GIS: http://www.firedetect.noaa.gov/viewer.htm KML: http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/FIRE/kml.html ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
