DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1700Z July 29, 2013
Western US to Northern and Central Plains; Wildfires burning in Washington and Idaho yesterday and today are producing an area of mostly light to moderate residual smoke stretching east across central/eastern Washington, northern Oregon, northern/central Idaho and western Montana. Residual smoke is also seen from these wildfires in eastern Montana, northern Wyoming, and part of North and South Dakota. Central Canada/Upper Mississippi Valley/Great Lakes: Large area of smoke from wildfires burning across northern/central Manitoba stretches across a large section of central Canada and the northern US. Heavy smoke is seen extending along the western Hudson Bay and in sections of northeast Manitoba. Moderately dense smoke extends along the entire western Hudson Bay south into southern Ontario. A large area of light smoke extends over most of eastern Manitoba, Hudson Bay and Ontario. It stretches south into the US including the states of Minnesota, Wisconsin, western Michigan, Iowa, Illinois and western Indiana. California: Wildfire burning in central California is producing moderate smoke moving n-ly across California. The residual smoke from this wildfire stretches north along central California and nearing the Oregon coast and into parts of central Nevada almost reaching Utah. JK THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
