Western US to Western Great Lakes Region/Central US; Widespread thin density smoke from a number of wildfires burning in the Western US stretched from Washington/Oregon/California eastward to the western Great Lakes region and the Mid Mississippi Valley. Moderately dense to thick smoke from a fire over east central California extended to the northeast across central and northeastern Nevada. Another area of moderately dense to thick smoke from several fires in southwestern Oregon covered much of southwestern Oregon and spread southward over portions of northern and central California. Fires in Washington, Idaho, and western Montana were responsible for moderately dense to thick smoke which stretched from Washington across northern Idaho to western and northern Montana. Some of this smoke even reached southwestern and south central Canada. Canada/North Central US: Moderately dense to thick smoke primarily from fires in northern Manitoba and northern Saskatchewan was visible over a good portion of central Canada. A larger area of thinner density smoke extended farther to the north over far north central Canada and from there moved to the southeast across Baffin Bay and the Labrador Sea toward the Atlantic Ocean. The southern end of the thinner smoke also appeared to get close to the far north central US around Lake Superior. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG: http://www.osdpd.noaa.gov/ml/land/hms.html GIS: http://www.firedetect.noaa.gov/viewer.htm KML: http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/FIRE/kml.html ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
