DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1745Z August 10, 2013
Pacific Northwest to Great Lakes: A large area of light to moderate dense smoke remains over much of the Pacific Northwest through the northern and Central Plains and into the Midwest and Great Lakes region. This smoke is remnant from numerous wildfires that have been burning in the Northwest and Rockies over the past several days. An area of heavy smoke is moving east across central and eastern Montana which is from several large wildfires in central Idaho last evening. Canada: A large area of light and moderate smoke remains over much of Canada from Yukon and the Northwest Territories to western Hudson Bay then south over the northern half of Alberta and Saskatchewan and covering much of Manitoba and Ontario. This smoke is from numerous wildfires in Alberta/Saskatchewan and the Northwest Territories that have been burning for several days. Dust: Gulf of Mexico/Texas/Oklahoma/Arkansas: A large area of elevated Saharan dust remains across the western Gulf coast and could also be seen over much of Texas, southeast Oklahoma, Arkansas, and western Louisiana.
