THROUGH 0220Z August 20, 2013
Smoke: Central Plains/Midwest/New England: A large area of thin to moderate density remnant smoke is visible in much of the Plains and Midwest areas. Areas affected include: North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Great Lakes, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Quebec. The most dense concentrations affect Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Texas, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Illinois. This smoke originates from the wildfires currently burning in the western US. Central Canada: An twisted area of moderate remnant smoke is visible through British Columbia and Alberta moving eastward towards Saskatchewan. This is likely from the wildfires burning through the Northwest Territories. Due to extensive cloudiness in that region this morning and early afternoon, the full extent of the smoke (especially through eastern and northern Canada) could not be seen. New England/Southeastern Canada: An area of light density smoke is visible moving NE through portions of northern New England and extreme eastern Canada. Areas affected include: Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Maine. This is likely a mixture of remnant smoke from the wildfires burning through northern Canada and Alaska as well as the large wildfires burning in the western US.
