SMOKE: No significant areas of detached smoke were observed in satellite imagery this afternoon and evening. Regional smoke was detected over Kansas and northern Oklahoma and also in extreme northern Minnesota and southern Manitoba associated with numerous agricultural/prescribe fires. DUST: Several source areas of blowing dust were detected this afternoon/evening over portions of central and southern California in advance of a storm system. An area of dust emanating from the Owens Lake and Death Valley area was moving to the north and crossing into western Nevada. Another broader area was seen over the Mojave desert that was spreading to the east and nearly reaching the southern tip of Nevada by sunset. One final area was seen over the desert area just to the west of the Salton sea and was also moving to the east. The dust was mainly of light density.
