DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0100Z January 5, 2014

Blowing Dust:
A few small areas of blowing dust were visible in this evening's satellite
imagery. The first area of blowing dust is the most significant of the
three and originates from southwestern Esmeralda county. The blowing
dust is of medium thickness and extends south-southeast through Nye
county into Inyo county in California. The second area of blowing dust
originates from a very small point in western Lincoln county, is light in
density, and extends southeast towards northern Clark county. The third
area of blowing dust is light in nature and originates in eastern-central
Coconino county in Arizona and extends southward.

Smoke:
No significant areas of remnant smoke were detected.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
