DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

Central US: A large area of unknown aerosols exists over the central US. This area extends from South Dakota east through Iowa, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio before it becomes obscured by cloud cover. The composition and origin of these aerosols is unknown. Western Gulf and Northern Gulf Coast: Light to moderately dense smoke from large areas of agricultural burning across the Yucatan and Northern Central America covers the entire western Gulf of Mexico west of 90W and extends south across Central America into the eastern Pacific. -Salemi THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
