DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0200Z April 30, 2014
SMOKE: Gulf of Mexico : A large area of light smoke, the result of numerous fires over Mexico and Central America, continues to be seen over all but the eastern Gulf of Mexico. Southern CA Coast: A combination of smoke and dust is seen offshore south of Santa Barbara, CA to roughly half way down the Baja Peninsula. The smoke contribution comes from a very large wildfire that is producing very dense smoke and is located to the north of Ensenada, Baja. The smoke is moving west southwest. DUST: Texas: An expansive area of dust is moving from the central plains south into the Texas Panhandle this evening. Through sunset, the dust is seen reaching from eastern Colorado down through central Texas. Ramirez THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
