DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

SMOKE: Central Canada: A large area of thin density smoke originating from the Funny River fire in the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska from nearly a week ago is currently located over a bulk of boreal Ontario, bounded by the extreme northeast tip of Manitoba to southern Hudson Bay, James Bay, and upper peninsula of Michigan. The northern portion of the smoke is moving east across northern Ontario, while the southern portion is moving S and SE across Lake Superior into Michigan and southeast Ontario. On the western edge of this area, a 50 km strip of moderately dense smoke can be seen extending between the Keweenaw peninsula of MI, Isle Royale, Lake Nipigon, to the far northeast tip of Manitoba. Gallina/Heeps THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
