DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1800Z June 14, 2014
SMOKE: Northwest Territories/British Columbia/Alberta: An expansive area of light-density smoke is visible moving SE over SE NW Territories, NW Nunavut, and northern Saskatchewan and Manitoba.This smoke originates from the multiple wildfires burning close to the Great Slave Lake. Mexico/Texas: A small plume of light-density smoke is visible moving NW in Mexico crossing into the border of southern Texas. This remnant smoke originates from the agricultural burns that have been taking place in Mexico and Central America. BLOWING DUST: Gulf of Mexico: A plume of blowing dust is visible in the eastern/southern region of the Gulf of Mexico extending south to Cuba. The dust is most likely Saharan in origin and first visible around 1400Z. Oegerle THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
