THROUGH 1840Z July 22, 2014 SMOKE: Canada/U.S: A large area of light to heavy density smoke is visible over a majority of central and western Canada and the northern and U.S , most of which is originates from wildfires across much of the Northwest Territories surrounding Great Slave and Great Bear Lakes. The heaviest smoke is visible in the NW Territories and Nunavut. Medium density smoke is visible affecting the NW Territories, BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. Light density smoke is visible affecting the NW Territories, Nunavut, BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, North Dakota, and Minnesota. ***A large area of light density smoke is visible over a majority of eastern Canada extending from Quebec through New Foundland and Labrador down over St Pierre et Miquelon. This remnant smoke originates from the smoke that has been emitted from the wildfires in the NW Territories as well as Siberia. Central US: An area of light to medium smoke is visible in the central US moving slight SE. Areas affected by light density smoke include Ontario, the Great Lakes, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas, and Louisiana. Medium density smoke is visible in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas. ***Northeast US: A plume of medium density smoke is visible over the northeast US moving eastward over the Atlantic Ocean. This remnant smoke from Canada extends from Maine south through the eastern shore of Maryland. Alaska/Gulf of Alaska/Western Canada: A large area of light to medium density smoke is visible extending from SE Alaska down into the Gulf of Alaska into BC and the NW Territories. This remnant smoke originates from wildfires occurring in eastern Siberia near Lake Baikal that has made its way eastward. Western US: A large area of light smoke is visible moving eastward from a wildfire located in the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest in Nevada near the Utah border. This remnant smoke currently is affecting Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, South Dakota, and Nebraska.
