DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1700Z July 27, 2014
SMOKE: Canada/Northern US: A large area of light to heavy density smoke is visible this morning over a majority of western, central, and eastern Canada. The heaviest smoke is visible over Alberta, NW Territories, and Nunavut. Moderate density smoke is visible affecting NW Territories, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Nunavut, Hudson Bay, Ontario, Quebec, St. Pierre et Miquelon, and New Brunswick. Light density smoke is visible over NW Territories, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Nunavut, Quebec, Newfoundland and Labrador, St. Pierre et Miquelon, Nova Scotia, Anticosti Island, New Brunswick, and Maine. Small additional plumes of light and moderate smoke are visible in Montana, North and South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, Michigan, and Wisconsin where they are converging with remnant smoke moving eastward from the wildfires in Nevada and Utah. This smoke originates from the ongoing wildfires across Northwest Territories surrounding Great Bear and Great Slave Lakes, as well as British Columbia. Central US: Several plumes of light to moderate density smoke are visible extending across the central US affecting Wyoming, Colorado, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin. This area of smoke originates from wildfires occurring through Nevada and Utah, however is converging with the Canadian smoke coming down from the north, which is mixing in the central US. Southeast US: A small pocket of light density remnant smoke is visible moving southeastward over southern North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
