DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1700Z August 8, 2014
SMOKE: Canada/US: A large area of light to heavy smoke is visible in the majority of Canada moving south and then SE through the northern US into the Atlantic Ocean this morning. The heaviest smoke is visible affecting Quebec, Ontario, the Great Lakes, and Michigan. A separate detached plume of heavy smoke is visible over New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut. Moderate density smoke is visible affecting NW Territories, Nunavut, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, the Great Lakes, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, and St. Pierre et Miquelon. Light density smoke is visible over Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, North Dakota, Minnesota, the Great Lakes, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio. This smoke originates from the wildfires continuing to burn in NW Territories, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. Pacific NW/California: A large area of of light to moderate smoke is visible extending from northern California through the Pacific Northwest this morning. Areas affected by moderate density smoke include California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming. Light density smoke is visible in Montana, North Dakota, Idaho, as well as crossing the Canadian border into British Columbia, Alberta and Manitoba where is converges with the smoke moving south from the wildfires located there.. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
